︎ A SEMI-FICTIONAL SCRIPT ABOUT DESIGN

     2019 – PUB

A Semi-fictional Script about Design is a publication as part of the graduation piece The_Designer.TMP. The script takes Future Friends as its starting point. Organised by SpeculativeEdu, the Future Friends event was a mix of educational events, workshops, a conference, and an open discussion which took place in Maribor, Slovenia, April 14th till April 18th, 2019. The script combines a transcript of the open discussion with the results from personal research, multiple interviews and thoughts shared in countless conversations.

In 1963 Playboy magazine published ‘1984 and Beyond’, a discussion between 12 science-fiction writers about futures in science, biology and society as a whole. In the artwork with the same title Gerard Byrne takes the Playboy piece as a script for a video installation, first shown at the Venice Biennale in 2007. This piece inspired me to see the conversation as a performance, and the script as a structure.

The script presents a circulair conversation between four characters, each from a different perspective.  The language is developed from the starting point that writing about multispecies inclusivity in a human language is a exclusive act in itself. The work presentes a langauge based on different physical waveforms of sound: square, triangle, sine en sawtooth.
